As part of our international links we hosted two staff members from our Ethiopian Link School, Times Choice Academy, last November three of our teachers visited Ethiopia and spend some time at TCA.

At Sincil

Berhanu and Yeshi (the owner and director/teacher) arrived in London on Sunday 15th June, this was their first time visiting Europe and Yeshi’s first time out of Ethiopia.

We had a full week planned for them including a tour of London, a welcome assembly by the International Committee, climbing Mount Snowdon, visits to Fortuna Primary School, Dunston Primary, Brant Broughton Primary and Robert Pattinson Schools along with spending time in and around Sincil.

The aim of the visit was to share good practice and learn about the different cultures and teaching styles in particularly the teaching of English through phonics. Sincil pupils spent some time with our visitors in lessons showing and explaining their work, asking questions about what it is like in Ethiopia and in Ethiopian schools.

Sincil have an International Committee and the whole school has been involved in sharing work with pupil’s at Times Choice Academy on a variety of topics over the past two years. Our year 11’s delivered an African Day to KS3 pupils as part of their GCSE Citizenship coursework which taught pupils about African art, Ethiopian food, African dance and how children make their own football.

We are continually learning more about Ethiopia and Africa and hope for this to continue as the partnership between the two schools develops. Hopefully we hope to get the opportunity to visit Times Choice Academy again this November.
