Ethiopian Music Video

 

Music videos can be a particularly interesting way to introduce Ethiopian music, culture, dress and landscape. This is one of our favourites. This song called Balageru (meaning ‘rural area’ in the local language) is about diaspora Ethiopians based in London dreaming of the rural areas in Ethiopia that they miss so much. Listen out for the words ‘Na’ and ‘G’bu’ in the chorus which mean ‘come’ and ‘get in’. You can really feel the pull of rural Ethiopia through this song!
